Muir meets with Powerful Policy Makers

Director of the Wilderness Foundation, Andrew Muir, had the opportunity to address delegates from the Conservation Council of Nations (CCN) at Shamwari Game Reserve last week.
“This was an incredible opportunity to be able to present our organisation to some of the most powerful policy makers in the world,” says Muir.
“The CCN helps promote good natural resource wealth management and international conservation solutions, which is exactly in line with the goals of the Wilderness Foundation.”
The Conservation Council of Nations (CCN) is a non-profit organization within the organizational structure of the International Conservation Caucus Foundation (ICCF). The Council drives transnational conservation solutions through linking up a powerful world-wide network of policy makers with governments, NGOs and corporations.
There are 37 country members to the CCN and the European Union, including South Africa. All countries have been invited to participate in three days of roundtable discussions and environmental activities in South Africa this month.
Muir introduced the delegates to the Wilderness Foundation’s various conservation and social intervention projects as well as its latest “save the rhino” campaign.
“Our programmes and projects were well received by the delegates,” says Muir. “We were able to showcase our successes to a very powerful forum, and I’m sure that this will lead to many positive communications in the future.”
According to the CCN website, South Africa is particularly rich in plant biodiversity. It is ranked sixth out of the world’s seventeen megadiverse countries, with more than 20,000 different plants (or about 10% of all the known species of plants on Earth).
